Wouldn't Passata be a good substitute, comes in cartons and jars.

  Hi Anne - here in the USA a can of tomato sauce is a thin tomato puree (thicker, more concentrated puree is referred to as tomato paste here), and it can be 14 or 28 ounces.  If a recipe calls for can, it usually means 14 ounces, unless otherwise specified.
